Position Description
As part of the Systems Operations team, the Senior Systems Engineer is focused on platform infrastructure from an architecture, availability, and scalability perspective. They will be also involved in using best-in-class tools to monitor application and server health and make recommendations where opportunities for improvement exist.
What You Will Do
- Work directly with the Development, Technical and Network Operations teams to share in the process and activities required for deployment, management, and monitoring of our SaaS web platform
- Contribute to the architectural roadmap of the platform with regards to the platform solutions architecture in a highly available and scalable environment
- Collaborate with the Technology team to develop the strategy, tactical plans, and oversight of the implementation of expansion to the infrastructure in concern with advances in software development and emerging technologies
- Implementation of DevOps best practises to optimize the Dev-QA-Deploy process
- Contribute to the development of formal lab architecture documents according to the company's standard methodologies
- Must be able to source, procure, and manage significant 3rd party vendor services
- Assist in the development of all infrastructure and network operations budgeting activities and provide business justifications for increases
- Provide after-hours support and on-call work as required
What You Will Bring
- University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3+ years in a DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer role
- 5+ years’ experience with VMware virtualization
- 5+ years’ experience with storage solutions, SAN/NAS
- Working knowledge in i.e AWS or GCP
- Excellent knowledge in Unix/Linux systems from kernel to shell and beyond, including internal Unix systems and networking (DNS, TCP/IP, UDP, etc) and excellent knowledge network engineering
- Strong experience in networking
- Experience in Docker or any other Container based virtualization and orchestration platforms including Kubernetes, Swamkit
- Experience operating applications on public and private cloud solutions
- Experience running web applications, using Haproxy, Tomcat, Spring, Nginx, Apache
- Familiarity with DevOps best practises and practical applications
- Must be familiar with industry standard monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, New Relic, AlienVault or similar
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools (Saltstack, Ansible, Chef)
- Previous experience with GFS2/NFS clustering, Cisco Firewalls, Apache, HAProxy, Redis
- Experience with Docker, and the Linux container echo system Kubernetes, Mesos, etc.
- Knowledge of AWS or GCP public cloud computing
- Familiarity with DB Clustering of MySQL, Couchbase, Redis, Mongo
- Incredible attention to detail and sound decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a fast-paced team environment
- Self-starter with enthusiasm and a drive for excellence
